Robotic Prostate Surgery
Robotic Prostate Surgery
Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy is performed using the da Vinci® Surgical System. The da Vinci® is a sophisticated robotic surgery system that allows surgeons to operate on the prostate with 3D vision, exceptional control and precision. The da Vinci® is an advanced surgical system which allows tiny robotic instruments to be passed through several small keyhole incisions in the patient’s abdomen allowing the surgeon to remove the prostate and nearby tissues with great accuracy and precision. This is far less invasive than a conventional open prostatectomy, which involves large abdominal incision.
During robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, a 3D camera and image processing equipment enable a magnified view of delicate structures surrounding the prostate gland most importantly the nerves and blood vessels, allowing optimal preservation of these vital structures, resulting in fast and enhanced recovery. The surgeon is seated at a computer console and manipulates the robot arms without entering the patient’s body cavity with his hands.
